Fees and Regulation

Regulation

Midwifery is one of the most regulated professions in the UK. This is the same whether we practice independently or within the NHS. All midwives are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This governing body ensures that we practice in a safe and professional manner.  In order to stay registered with the NMC, we must remain updated in current research-based practice.

Insurance

PLEASE NOTE: From the 11th January 2017 independent midwives are unable to provide labour and birth care, either at home or in hospital . This is due to restrictions placed on the practice of all Independent Midwifery UK (IMUK) members by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). For more information please see: http://www.imuk.org.uk/news/nmc-decision-regarding-indemnity-arrangements-for-imuk-members/. A legal challenge is currently underway and we are hopeful that our usual practice will be resumed and women’s birth rights will continue to be protected..

We at Cambridge Midwives have carefully considered our practice in the light of this news and can deliver two different care options:

1) Siobhan Taylor RM works as a private midwife of the leading providers of private maternity care, the UK Birth Centres
and as such is fully compliant with all UK insurance requirements under UKBC and RCN regulations. Siobhan is therefore able to provide antenatal and postnatal care and can attend both home and hospital births as your midwife. All packages and costs are to be found on the UKBC website. http://www.ukbirthcentres.com/

2) Sarah Murray RM is fully compliant under RCN regulations and can provide packages of antenatal care at a cost of £1250 and/or postnatal care at a cost of £750. In addition, our own associate doula, Becky Talbot, will be on call from 37 weeks onwards and can support labour and be your advocate either in hospital (Birth Centre or Delivery Unit), or in the home at a cost of £850, with an NHS midwife in attendance. Becky will meet you at 36 weeks onwards and be part of the supporting pathway alongside Sarah to ensure continuity of care and carer.

Please feel free to ring us for further information. There of course can be some combinations of the care packages previously outlined.

As professional and experienced professionals with a duty of care to you and your baby we do not offer discounts.

Siobhan has delivered two of my six children and was there not only to guide and ensure that my experiences were as amazing as possible, but to hold my hand if this was needed whilst also being mindful of my husband’s feelings, too. At one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s life she was able to help me feel in control and a part of decision-making whilst containing any worries that we may have had when considering what was best for baby and me…thank you, Siobhan
