Antenatal

Although pregnancy is a normal part of life, women sometimes need guidance in order to normalise their experience. Reducing fear and working with you to empower yourself are central to our shared philosophy. Evidence shows that providing the right care and support in the transitional period to parenting can have a long-term impact on health and well-being of all the family. We aim to provide the right care and support through our antenatal visits and birth education.

All antenatal appointments are undertaken at a time convenient to you in the comfort of your own home. We are also happy to meet you at an alternative venue, should you prefer. These occasions are an opportunity to monitor both your physical well-being and that of your baby.

You and your partner will have every opportunity to discuss all aspects of your pregnancy and birth, and any individual concerns or issues you may have.

As your pregnancy progresses, appointments will become more frequent, giving you and your partner plenty of opportunity to discuss your birth plan and preparations for labour and beyond.

The typical appointment schedule is as follows:-
8-12 weeks booking appointment of 2 hours, followed by 70-90 min appointments at 16, 20, 24, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42 weeks, although Sarah will visit you more frequently if necessary.

The continuity of care provided by your known midwife Sarah, will contribute to a trusting relationship which will contribute positively to your birth experience.

One-off appointments can be made if your routine antenatal care does not meet your requirements e.g. discussion of birth plan options or post-dates pregnancy advice and support. These are subject to availability.

Sarah is now offering a new two session package ‘Birth and Beyond’ which encompasses all aspects of Birth preparation and immediate post birth situations broadly covering  : knowing your maternal rights, self advocacy and the issue of consent; all encompassing care plans for all places of birth – home, midwifery led unit, consultant led unit and elective/emergency c section; all types pain relief from natural to medical and their pros and cons; Beyond:  breastfeeding; safe co -sleeping; baby’s behaviour; first aid; bathing;input/output and weight etc. -and any other issues you wish to discuss.

There are no words to describe how grateful I am to Sarah, thanks to her knowledge, wisdom and experience my two children have had the best start in life. She guided me through two pregnancies and births and then supported my husband and I in the first weeks of their lives.

Sarah helped me to create positive birth plans and she gave me the confidence and the know how to use these plans while I was in hospital before, during and after the birth. During my second birth I could often hear her voice in my head guiding me and encouraging me to trust my instincts and do what was best for my baby and I. So it is thanks to Sarah that I had almost constant skin to skin with my babies for the first days and nights of their lives and I was able to successfully breastfeed both of my babies and not suffer any complications. I firmly believe that this is why they were both happy and healthy babies.

During my first pregnancy I was extremely anxious and Sarah has helped me to gradually overcome my fears and she has given me the tools that I needed to become a very happy and confident mother of two. I really don’t know what we would have done without her. C and C.
